Westell is currently hiring for the following positions:

Manager of Technical Accounting

Located at the Company’s corporate headquarters, the Manager of Technical Accounting will play a key role regarding technical accounting matters related to US GAAP.  The position is critical in supporting the Company’s GAAP compliance by analyzing and implementing accounting guidance, developing and maintaining accounting policies, and determining proper accounting treatment for complex and non-routine transactions. The position will lead contract administration, including customer RFP’s and non-disclosure agreements and assist in other significant projects, which vary based on the Company’s business transactions and priorities (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures, new policies, new types of transactions, training initiatives, etc.). This position reports into the AVP Financial Reporting. The ideal candidate must be versatile and proactive with an ability to manage evolving priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities of the role:

Technical Accounting

  • Research technical accounting issues to ensure compliance with Company policy and GAAP in various areas including revenue recognition (multiple elements and software), rebates and incentives, leases, investments, consolidation, intangible assets and other topics
  • Lead revenue recognition transition to ASC 606, including evaluating existing customer contracts
  • Support the sales, business unit, and other teams by interpreting and developing models for new multi-element arrangements
  • Partner with various teams within finance and other functions to understand the nature of transactions, provide structuring advice, propose feasible alternatives, and ensure timely preparation of accounting memos
  • Prepare accounting position whitepapers and review with the Company’s management and external auditors
  • Identify, assess and document the accounting implications of non-routine transactions and provide technical guidance on ad hoc company initiatives
  • Review contracts to identify and resolve potential accounting implications
  • Monitor US GAAP and SEC developments and evaluating the impacts of new accounting and reporting rules
  • Maintain and communicate updates to company accounting policies
  • Assist the SEC financial reporting team with compilation of the external filings on an as needed basis.
  • Analyze data and work collaboratively to create monthly as well as ad-hoc reports.

Contract Administration

  • Coordinate contract review for Westell, including reviewing all contracts
  • Develop a standardized contract summary template to identify all key elements and related accounting treatment
  • Read contracts, identify potential issues that need to be reviewed by other Westell team members or outside counsel
  • Recommend changes to terms and conditions of agreements based on knowledge of Westell’s specific contract requirements
  • Coordinate contract routing and approval
  • Provide redline comparison to prior contracts and agreements, create clean versions of contracts, and check contracts submitted by outside parties for consistency with final agreed-upon contract language
  • Manage and maintain Westell contract templates, and provide templates when requested


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work hands on, and become actively involved in all aspects of the accounting and finance function
  • Demonstrated experience performing complex technical research analysis and facilitating integration into new processes
  • Ability to work efficiently and achieve high quality results
  • Excellent analytical, teamwork, customer service and leadership skills
  • Excellent Excel skills; CPA and SAP experience are a plus

RF Engineer

Major Responsibility:

Primarily responsible for developing advanced wireless technologies for the in-building wireless market at the Company’s corporate headquarters in Aurora, Ill.


  • Play a role in development projects (often from concept to production) which may range from new design of RF, Optical, Analog, or Digital circuits to minor changes to existing products
  • Routinely interface with both Software and DSP/digital Design Engineers to ensure overall project success
  • Interact with various groups (assemblers, production technicians, document control, engineers and engineering management) throughout each project
  • RF, Optical Analog and Digital circuit level design, test, troubleshoot responsibilities
  • Provide Technical Support of existing product lines (Digital Repeaters, DAS Interface Unit, Bi-Directional Amplifiers, Passive RF Products) in the form of Specifications, Test Procedures, BOMs, and Documentation

Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Ability to design at board level for RF, optical, analog and digital circuits
  • Ability to develop board level specification including interface specification to be used by software developers
  • Ability to test, tune and re-work prototypes
  • Skilled at debug/troubleshoot circuits to the component level
  • Proficient in RF test and measurement; collecting, recording and analyzing test results
  • Skilled in radio systems and discrete circuit level design
  • Significant ‘hands on’ design experience in two or more of the following is essential; transmitter design, receiver design, mixed signal circuit design (ADC/DAC)
  • Significant knowledge in RF system design tradeoffs (gain, NF, IP3, spur analysis)
  • Significant knowledge in microcontroller interface design.
  • Ability to use schematic capture CAD tools and/or some layout experience
  • Working knowledge of EDA tools such as ADS, Microwave Office, Matlab


  • BSEE degree required
  • 3+ years of experience as an RF design engineer (MSEE desired)
