Westell’s VersaLink Gateway Supports DSL Forum TR-069 Protocol Aurora, IL, July 13, 2004 -- Westell Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: WSTL), a leading systems developer and manufacturer of high-speed broadband/DSL and VoIP technology access products, announced today that its VersaLink™ Wireless Gateway is the first to support the DSL Forum’s new protocol TR-069 for customer premises equipment (CPE) WAN management. Westell co-authored the TR-069 protocol and helped drive the open standards based implementation with other Forum members. TR-069 establishes rules for how a CPE device communicates and is managed by a remote management system. Westell is one of the original founding members of the DSL Forum and co-chairs the DSLHome technical and marketing committees, including the one responsible for the creation of TR-069. The VersaLink Wireless Gateway offers service providers the ability to now remotely manage the device via a resident TR-069 client. This flexibility allows the device to receive software upgrades and feature changes via Westell’s EnVoy Service Management System™ without requiring upgrades or field replacement. Unlike other wireless gateways currently on the market, VersaLink supports optional Quality of Service (QoS) at both layer 2 and layer 3 as well as an optional, software programmable uplink Ethernet port (VersaPort™). VersaLink offers wired, wireless and alternate WAN, such as fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) access via the VersaPort, making it the only TR-069 compliant device to offer such capabilities. “As the principal driver behind the creation of TR-069, Westell is focused on delivering manageable, more feature-rich CPE, such as VersaLink to our service provider customers”, said George Pitsoulakis, Product Line Director at Westell and co-chair of the DSL Forum’s Home Working Group. TR-069 is a key development and will allow our customers to lower their operating costs of maintaining and managing CPE devices and create more opportunities for revenue generating applications”, he added.
