| Westell Awarded Multi-Year Contract from Verizon for VersaLink Wireless Gateway |

Aurora, IL September 21, 2004 -- Westell Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: WSTL), a leading provider of broadband/DSL access products, gateways and conferencing services, announced today that it has entered into a multi-year contract with Verizon to supply its VersaLink™ Wireless Gateway along with Wireless Adapters for broadband DSL consumers, SOHO and small businesses networking applications. Westell has been a broadband product supplier to Verizon for several years, providing DSL modems and routers for basic Internet access. VersaLink is one in a family of gateway products from Westell that offers more applications and capabilities including robust 54mbps, 802.11g wireless technology. VersaLink is a gateway device that integrates a Westell DSL modem with a manageable, Quality-of-Service aware multi-port router providing 802.11g wireless functionality.
