Westell Announces Software Application for its VersaLink Gateway

New VersaView™ and VersaClick™ Software Make Life Easier for Gateway Users

AURORA, IL, JUNE 7, 2005 - -Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL), a leading provider of broadband access products, gateways and conferencing services, today announces new software for its VersaLink™ Gateway designed to dramatically simplify, enhance and secure the home networking experience. Westell will demonstrate its new VersaView and VersaClick applications for the first time at SUPERCOMM 2005 at exhibit Booth # 23030 at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago, Illinois.

VersaView software simplifies home networking set-up, and provides an end-to-end management view of the entire home network and gateway parameters through an easy-to-navigate graphical user interface. VersaView also provides popular features such as shared photo album, shared music collection and easy file identification. For service providers it offers even greater diagnostic trouble-shooting capability through a home personal computer connection.

Westell’s new VersaClick software simplifies the set-up of security for the wireless home network. Studies show most home network users do not enable security because of the complexities around setting up the encryption and security keys. VersaClick enables users to easily set-up and configure secure WEP/WPA encryption on the VersaLink Gateway and wireless adapters through a simple graphical user interface.

The features and capabilities of both software packages, VersaView and VersaClick, are accessible from any computer or device connected to the home network using Westell’s wireless VersaLink Gateway. The new VersaView and VersaClick applications are available exclusively as a VersaLink upgrade.

Westell’s VersaLink Gateway combines ADSL2+ modem technology, four-port wired networking using Ethernet or USB, and 802.11g wireless networking. VersaLink also supports industry-standard TR-069 remote management. This flexibility allows the device to receive software upgrades and feature changes without requiring field replacement.

The VersaLink Gateway also supports optional Quality of Service (QoS) at both layer 2 and layer 3, as well as Westell’s optional uplink port, VersaPort™, which transforms an Ethernet LAN port into an Ethernet WAN port for alternative access, including fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) and fixed wireless.
“VersaView and VersaLink software, along with our VersaLink Gateway, deliver several compelling enhancements that dramatically improve and secure the home networking experience for end users. We are also excited about giving our service provider customers more new products to add value to their broadband offering while lowering their operating costs of maintaining and managing customers home networks,” George Pitsoulakis, Westell Product Line Director, Advanced Networking and VoIP Solutions, said.

“With over one million units shipped since it was launched late 2004, the VersaLink represents our successful entry into the home networking marketplace,” Pitsoulakis said. “We believe these enhanced software packages will make it easier for more customers to install and maintain home networks using our VersaLink product,” he added.
