Active cooling and air-tight protection offer first cost effective solution for outdoor deployments; puts fiber and Ethernet deeper into networks AURORA, IL, JUNE 18, 2007 – Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL) today introduced Westell SHADE environmental enclosures for telecommunications equipment, which combine compact size with a patent-pending dynamic cooling system to significantly reduce maintenance and operating costs for wireless and wireline network operators. Historically, enclosures for this type of telecom equipment were both expensive and very large. Westell SHADE can replace these older, bulkier enclosures in many applications. The Westell SHADE debuts at NXTcomm, which runs June 19th through 21st at Chicago’s McCormick Place convention center. Westell will be located in booth #2215. SHADE is the latest innovation for Westell’s market-leading Network Service Access product line and is compliant with Bellcore’s Generic Requirements for Electronic Equipment Cabinets (GR-487-CORE, Issue 2, March 2000). Designed to protect against the harshest environmental conditions and external contaminants, Westell SHADE employs Westell’s patent-pending dynamic cooling system (DCS). DCS uses a series of fans to direct continuous air circulation inside and outside the electronic equipment chamber to reduce the effects of solar loading and dissipate up to 200 watts of heat. No expensive heat exchangers or air conditioners are needed. With fewer moving parts, no chemicals to monitor, and no filters to maintain, the result is a smaller enclosure that is easier and more cost-effective to operate. “Westell SHADE is a true innovation in a very mature category,” said Mark Huntzinger, Westell vice president of Network Service Access. “Westell is the market leader in GR-487-compliant cabinets and we’re proud to introduce a product that offers our customers a far more cost-effective solution to an otherwise very expensive challenge.” About WestellWestell Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: WSTL) headquartered in Aurora, Ill., has a 25-year history of broadband innovation, with more than 20 million devices shipped.
