Westell, an industry leading manufacturer of communication products and accessories for the public safety market is seeking a Wireless Design Engineer to join our In-Building Wireless product development team in our Aurora, Illinois headquarters. The ideal candidate is looking for an opportunity to be hands on and contribute in all aspects of the product realization process. This position will provide leadership in design, NPI and technical support for Westell's growing position in the In-Building Wireless space. This position will work closely with all functional groups within the organization.

Responsibilities for this position include:

  • Provide technical expertise in definition, design, new product introduction and technical support
  • Identify new technologies and technical partners to successfully bring products to market
  • Provide leadership in supporting products for the entire product life cycle
  • Contribute in defining product strategy with a focus on technical and cost leadership, and time to market
  • Productize designs developed internally or externally (including generating bills of materials, part specifications, test specifications, schematics, etc.)
  • Direct testing and evaluation of internally and externally developed designs/products
  • Generation of technical documentation including requirement and test specifications
  • Act as the wireless product expert providing technical support for sales and marketing activities
  • Frequent customer interaction with regard to design solutions/issues.
  • Evaluate existing designs for performance cost and quality improvements

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Five or more years of experience in wireless product design
  • Strong communication and leadership skills working in cross functional teams
  • Proven track record of developing board level wireless based designs and producing those designs
  • Demonstrated experience in product support for the entire product life cycle
  • Hands on expertise with RF test equipment including spectrum/network/vector analyzers and signal sources
  • Strong knowledge of cellular networks, wireless theory, wireless system and board level design
  • Practical understanding of signal integrity, EMI and EMC; as it pertains to PCB design and electronic packaging
  • Analog/RF design experience, including closed loop control circuitry, PLL, L.O., mixer, LNAs, PAs, and point of load power
  • Experience with schematic capture CAD and PCB simulation tools
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Genesys, ADS or other RF/Microwave simulation tools

Desired but not required Qualifications:

  • Advanced engineering degree and continual education and professional certifications
  • Familiarity with cavity or helical based filter designs
  • Wireless knowledge as it relates to DAS, public safety, D-RAN, C-RAN, O-RAN
  • Familiar with digital modulation, TDMA, SWC-FDMA, OFDM
  • System link budget calculation for repeater and DAS applications
  • Experience with ADCs, DACs, FPGAs, and FIR filters
  • Experience with digital simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Experience with Agile PLM and Altium Schematic Capture
  • Working knowledge of 3GPP through release 16
  • Experience with RF planning tools (iBwave)

Salary: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
