Westell Launches Application Development Contest for Homecloud™

AURORA, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL), a leading provider of telecommunications equipment for wireline, wireless and home networks, announced today that the company is sponsoring a contest for new applications developed for the Homecloud Digital Home Manager (DHM).

Entrants who develop a software application for the Homecloud platform and register for the contest on the Homecloud website, www.homecloud.com, will be eligible for cash prizes of up to $5,000. In addition, any applications selected by Westell for distribution to Homecloud users will earn $1,000, and all entrants providing a valid proof of purchase of the Homecloud DHM will receive a $100 entry prize.

“We are excited to engage application developers in enhancing the user experience and functionality of Homecloud,” said Rick Gilbert, President and CEO of Westell. “The apps are what make Homecloud such a unique and powerful product. We are looking for useful, creative apps that will help make Homecloud even more compelling.”

The Homecloud DHM is a versatile, connected, open platform for applications that sits in the center of the home. It is a wireless router, a network hub, and an application server, all rolled into one. The DHM comes with an initial set of applications which enable network addressable storage, automated data backup and sharing of content across multiple operating systems. It is available for purchase via the Homecloud website, www.homecloud.com, for a special introductory price of $180.

The contest runs from November 12, 2012 through March 1, 2013. At the end of the entry round, eligible applications will be judged based on utility, quality and ease of use. Winners will be announced on or before March 31, 2013.

Complete contest rules are available on the Homecloud website.
