Westell and 4HomeMedia Offer World's First ''Connected Home'' Multi-Service Residential Gateway

AURORA, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--

Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ:WSTL), a broadband access equipment provider, today announced it is making the connected home a reality by integrating 4HomeMedia's home control application into Westell's UltraLine(TM) Series3 IP video gateway.

4HomeMedia's ControlPoint(TM) embedded software gives broadband service providers an additional platform to deliver incremental fee-driven services through the UltraLine Series3. This enhanced functionality allows service providers to offer customers home automation and monitoring, plus home health, energy and media management services.

Westell will demonstrate the UltraLine Series3 in booth #2215 at NXTcomm, which runs June 19th through 21st at Chicago's McCormick Place convention center. The demonstration will highlight 4HomeMedia's fully-featured home control software platform.

"The UltraLine Series3 stands as the most robust residential gateway on the market with its support for fiber and VDSL2 technology," said Alex Fedosseev, 4HomeMedia director of product management. "With the integration of 4HomeMedia's ControlPoint(TM) embedded software, the gateway becomes a services engine for telcos, providing numerous for-fee broadband home services under a common user-interface system."

Westell introduced the UltraLine Series3 earlier this year as one of the only residential gateways in the industry to support the most recent advances in wide area network (WAN) solutions. The UltraLine Series3 supports the highest rate VDSL2 profile (band plan 30a), capable of bi-directional 100Mbps traffic over short distances. Other VDSL2 profiles supporting longer loops are provided for fiber-to-the-neighborhood (FTTN) topologies. The higher throughput VDSL2 30a band plan is ideal for multi-dwelling unit (MDU) applications and green field scenarios.

The UltraLine Series3 product line also includes models configured for fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) environments. This includes direct connections via 10BaseT, gigabit Ethernet or a WAN connection over a coaxial cable link to a fiber ONT using a digital coax standard such as that offered by the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA). Westell's future models will also support HPNAv3.

"With our dual-core design, the UltraLine Series3 was created to support third-party, premium value-added services for consumers," said Scott Voegele, Westell director of product management. "4HomeMedia's platform approach of providing multiple services with a compelling, device-independent user interface significantly expands its capabilities."

At NXTcomm, Westell and 4HomeMedia will demonstrate a whole home control network spanning multiple protocols. Through the use of four-screen architecture, visitors will experience simultaneous and dynamic display and control of devices and systems from home computers, televisions, touch panels, and various smartphones.
