Westell Technologies Releases Optima to Manage Multiple DAS Networks from a Single Platform

AURORA, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Westell Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTL), a global leader of intelligent site management, in-building wireless, cell site optimization, and outside plant solutions, releases the integration of Westell’s Optima Management System® with the ClearLink® Universal DAS Interface Tray (UDIT™) by Cellular Specialties, Inc. (CSI), a division of Westell. The integration enables the viewing and management of multiple distributed antenna system (DAS) networks and UDITs from one management platform.

The Optima Management System provides comprehensive site monitoring, management, and control of entire DAS networks including its site infrastructure. The ClearLink UDIT is an active radio frequency (RF) DAS conditioner that optimizes signal performance between a small cell or high power base transceiver station (BTS) and a DAS. The new integration provides enhanced management to optimize the health of all DAS equipment across every site within the network. Optima provides remote monitoring of DAS alarms, RF parameters, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and configurations via a web-based graphical user interface (GUI). This helps improve response time to issues, maintain operating efficiency, and improve technician productivity.

The key features of the Optima integration to the ClearLink UDIT include the following:

  • A complete view of multiple DAS networks and UDITs from a single platform
  • KPIs to verify the operational status of DAS components such as input/output power for each UDIT Point of Interface (POI) module
  • Common alarm management across heterogeneous DAS equipment
  • Ability to remotely adjust power settings and attenuation
  • An operational view of the subscribers’ user experience
  • Easy and remote access to the source of actionable alarms/faults

“With the rapid growth of in-building wireless deployments and demand for a quality and reliable communications experience, understanding and optimizing DAS and small cell networks is critical,” explains Ben Stump, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Westell. “The integration of the ClearLink UDIT into Optima enables wireless service providers and neutral host operators to actively monitor and manage their entire DAS and small cell network from one location. Operational efficiency is improved by providing remote monitoring and management, minimizing site visits. Network reliability and availability are optimized by using Optima to provide a comprehensive view of the entire DAS deployment, from the head end to the antenna, and monitoring the KPIs to validate peak performance.”
